This orthodontics practice started working with our team a few years back. When this client onboarded they started out with a SEO lite configuration. Establishing a basic presence, getting on the board for some high-intent local searches, and creating a stronger brand. A few years later they decided to take it to the next lever.

At their core, the client had a great website design, utilizing prominent call to actions, a live chat feature, and informative and engaging content ready to help convert the website visitors. With the user experience being top notch, we knew that all the site needed was traffic!

When our clients engage us, the first thing we always do is complete a full digital marketing audit. This will help us identify all areas of opportunity to help grow the dental practice.

Digital Audit

First thing’s first. A conversation with the client. Prior to starting any audit we need to understand our clients goals and dreams. We never go blindly into a marketing plan without understanding exactly what types of patients a dental practice wants sitting in their office. This will dictate the avenues which we choose to market the practice, how aggressive we need to be to compete, and this helps set expectations for the process.

It is vitally important that our clients have 2,3 or 4 different revenue generating digital marketing strategies at the same time. We never want all of our eggs in one basket – You never know what giants like Google or Bing are going to do to shake up that traffic.

As we work through this process we’ll always future plan with our clients. Not just for the most progress today, but where is their strategy going in the future. What do we expect to see in the market for which we should prepare now.

We knew they were seeing around 50 monthly visitors monthly, which fluctuated up and down each month. Also, their websites technical performance was ideal and saw no issues

We knew they were a prime target for a search marketing campaign. We just needed to identify if this was a paid search (PPC) opportunity or search optimization opportunity (SEO). Based on the competition, their current presence, and their sites technical performance we knew our SEO services packages would be the way to go.

Quick-Win-Keywords Analysis

Our first step is to always identify where we can get the highest intent search traffic quickly. We typically call these the “quick-wins” keywords. These are the search keywords that they are already in decent position for – meaning the the top 2-3 pages or search results.

The theory here is that if we can start to move the needle quickly, that only provides growth and revenue to fund the campaign for years to come. Now, we do need to very clear, the quick-win keywords are not always available. For clients that have had little to no presence in the past, are just starting out, or have just registered a new domain for their practice, this may not be an option.

Back to the quick-wins – search optimization can take months to start to show results and progress. By focusing on these keywords we can often show results early on in a campaign, which helps mitigate the investment.

In this clients case, we were able to uncover around 150 quick-win keywords like “braces for kids” and “braces or invisible aligner”. Some of these keywords also had extremely high search volumes, so we immediately knew that visibility here would bring the site a trove of new traffic.

We then cross-referenced these terms with our client’s goals and BOOM! We now had an opportunity for a tremendous amount of visibility that wasn’t available yesterday.

Competition Analysis

These is where it gets really fun. I’m sure you’ve searched dental terms and seen your competitors. Many of our clients start out confused or irritated that these competitors are showing up and they are not.

Well the good news is that your practice can do the same.

We can also use these competitors visibility to our advantage. Many of these competitors’ practices are extremely similar, not in their core brand, but certainly in the core dental services they offer.

Building the Strategy

We knew the goal of this campaign was search visibility. We had a number of routes to choose from, such as a comprehensive search optimization plan, paid search such as a pay-per-click campaign, or even local services ads.

Ultimately, we all agreed that our advanced SEO services package was the answer.

Our strategy included some of our comprehensive, custom deliverables from onsite blog creation, off-page guest posting, creating additional web copy, local citation build and much more.

Initially our goal was to bolster the clients website copy to be competitive. This involved a myriad of tasks, such as keyword research, topic research, content planning, URL restructuring, and so on, and so on.

Next, we wanted to show the internet that our client meant business. That they WERE the authority in their market.

We started creating authoritative blog posts to publish consistently on their site, each of which is optimized to coincide with the keywords we were targeting on the site.

Typically, these blogs can range from 500 words to over 2,500 in some cases. This is often dictated by the competition.

Through our keyword research we know started to scour the internet for authoritative sites where we can publish content, this is considered guest posting.

Now, this type of content is important as this provides the authority. Next to great on-page content, off-site guest content is the keystone to building authority, and visibility.

These posts contain content on topics like “how braces are removed”, or “5 ways to get kids interested their teeth.”

Now, let’s talk about the results. I mean, that’s why you’re really here.

Results

The part you’ve been waiting for. Below is a representation of this client’s progress once they moved to a robust, managed SEO services package.

The first few months are dedicated to continuing to build on the already strong foundation. Remember, SEO is like steering a ship, you start with small adjustments and wait for the ship to turn.

Once motion has stabilized now you build, and build, and build. . In a short time their traffic started a steep incline, from around 20 visitors to over 150 monthly.

It was a thing of beauty! Once we see traffic spikes like this we know we’re heading in the right direction.
